About RiverQuest
RiverQuest is a loosely affiliated group of men who all share one common bond: a love for the outdoors and for the escape afforded by an outing with the "guys". We come together once a year to spend a few days on a Midwestern river and share music and stories of the past year around a campfire. Good food, good music, and most importantly good fellowship are the order of the day. Beginning with a handful of friends taking impromptu canoe trips on the Buffalo River in Arkansas, this annnual event has quickly grown into a large, well organized annual event with every member and their guests bringing their talents, abilities, and most importantly their sense of humor to contribute to a memorable long weekend that every member looks forward to each Spring.
Another year has passed, and the time has come men for 30th annual outing for Riverquest is approaching. In case you are wondering that makes it our "trigentennial" anniversary. We will be taking on the challenging Mulberry river once again this year hosted by our great friends at Byrds Adventure Center. This year's event will be Friday April 25th through Sunday April 28th with an additional bonus day added on Thursday April 26th. Everyone is welcome to come down on Thursday to get an extra day of camping in. Continuing with long standing traditions, in addition to paddling the Mulberry, we will be holding our annual Texas Hold 'em poker tournament, golf chipping challenge, washer tournament and live music. Saturday night will hold our annual group dinner at Byrds Riverfront Restaurant after we get off the river. If that wasn't enough fun, we will also have live music in camp on Saturday night after dinner!
So if you haven't already boys, start making those plans, get those honey-dos, honey-done and mark your calendar now for this years epic rite of manhood that is RiverQuest!

Byrd’s Adventure Center is the leading ATV park in Arkansas and one of the top canoe, kayak, and raft rental services on the wild and scenic Mulberry River and the most visited site by RiverQuest since forming in the late 90's. Since 1982, Byrd’s Adventure Center has been the original off-road and ATV park in Arkansas. In addition to hundreds of miles of ORV and ATV trails in the surrounding Ozark National Forest, Byrd’s Adventure Center offers 800-acres of the ultimate trails, mud pits, and obstacles for your ATV, UTV (side by side), motorcycle, and stock or modified 4x4. With concerts beginning in the 1980s, Byrd’s was the original music venue in the Mulberry River Valley. In 1995 Byrd’s staff obtained the first permit to teach rock climbing in the Ozark National Forest. Byrd’s Adventure Center was the first RV Campground and one of the first to offer lodging and cabin rentals along the wild and scenic Mulberry River.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you don't see an answer to your question, use the contact form to send your question to us.
Level (Feet) | Skill Level Required |
---|---|
Below 1.6 | Very low water with almost no current and lots of dragging. |
1.6 - 1.9 | Great for beginners, with water that is low but floatable. Most rocks and shoals can be negotiated without dragging if you read the river properly and carefully select your line downriver. |
2.0 - 2.3 | Moderate whitewater that is challenging for beginners. No dragging should be expected. |
2.4 - 2.9 | Intermediate level whitewater skills are necessary. Many midstream rocks are still exposed giving a challenge in selecting a line downriver, though most rocks will be covered. Some of the rapids are prime at this level. |
3.0 - 3.9 | Strong intermediate whitewater skills are necessary. Prime whitewater with a very powerful current is prevalent. Most rocks are completely covered, but haystacks (big standing waves around rocks) can swamp open canoes. Airbags or other flotation is recommended for open canoes. Strong self-rescue skills are needed in case of an unplanned swim. |
4.0 - 4.6 | Strong advanced whitewater skills are necessary. The water is big and fast, with almost no pools. All the rocks are covered and some rapids are washed out. The river widens into the trees lining the bank, causing potential strainer and wrapping problems. Strong self-rescue skills are needed. |
4.7 - 4.9 | No rental boats will be put on the river. If you come with your own boats and gear be sure you know the river and are prepared for what the river offers - a fast, bumpy ride that is a thrill when done right and a disaster when done wrong. Know your skills and proficiency - this is no time or place for naked bravery. |
Above 5  | At this level the river may be unsafe even for highly experienced river runners. Hang out for a couple of days until the river drops to a great level, then have the time of your life. |
